Choose Protected Area
Protected areas are areas with high natural value where nature is protected, studied and introduced and human activity is restricted to preserve the values. One important objective of national parks is also to preserve, study and introduce local cultural heritage. As at 2015, there were 926 protected areas in Estonia with a total surface area of 721,630 ha.
At the website of Estonian protected areas, it is possible to get more acquainted with ten of our most important protected areas. For that, select a protected area of interest from the left pull-down menu and read more about the values, organisation of protection, visitation opportunities and information materials of that area.
